There are a lot of beautiful places to visit in Maithon Like Maithon Dam, Garh Panchkot, Spoon Island, Kali Pahari and Kalyaneshwari Temple. Bike Trip From Kolkata to Maithon

Maithon bike trip by road was started on 03 Oct and it was Sunday when we gave thrust to our bike for our most awaited destination Maithon Dam. We had to cover almost 267 km to reach Maithon. It took around 5-6 hrs to reach there by car but in our case, it took a bit more time because we explored the places coming in between our bike trip. udukku13 were riding three bikes with 06 riders. Maithon bike trip lasted for two days and we had lots of fun while visiting there.

Driving Directions to Maithon from Kolkata by Road:-

This route usually has less traffic and 267 km distance is from my home particularly but if you google it from Kolkata it is around 254 km and usually, it takes 5-6 hrs to reach Maithon by road from Kolkata, However, You can take NH19 and Jamtara road to reach there. Check the exact direction from the map below and we have also given a video below to give you the exact condition of the road.

Places to Visit In Maithon

Maithon Dam:-

Maithon Dam is found in a picturesque landscape between an attractive lake and a beautiful forest. You can have boating there and enjoy a walk in a green forest around the lake.  Watching sunrise and sunset is delightful there.

Maithon Dam is located about 48K.M. distance from the coal city Dhanbad. This dam is one of its kind in Southeast Asia who is having an underground power station. Maithon Dam was built in the year 1948 by Damodar valley Corporation Limited(DVC Ltd). This is about 15712 ft long and 165 ft High. It generates about 60,000 K.W. of electric power.

Garh Panchkot:-

Garh Panchkot is a hidden archaeological site in Purulia and this is about 48 K.M. from Maithon. Garh Panchkot is located in the Panchet hills. It was a part of the Singh Deo dynasty. It has different types of architectural styles mostly made on the Panchratna style of architecture. This site still has some pre-Muslim era terracotta work on arches and pillars.

Kalyanshewari Temple:-

Kalyanshewari Temple is 500 years old centre for worshipping the goddess Shakti. It was said in legends that human sacrifices were offered in the remote past. The present temple is not very old and constructed by the Panchkot Raj. It is believed that Kalyanshewari Temple fulfils the wishes of childless mothers.

Spoon Island:-

Another beautiful spot, it is situated in the middle of Maithon lake. It is one of the islands where you must visit to feel the calmness and peacefulness of nature. It is a small island in an inverted spoon shape that why it's called a spoon island. This island is ideal for fishing. it is also called Sabuj deep.

Kali Pahari

Kali Pahari is very famous among locals because of its temple of goddess Kali. During Durga puja, it witnessed lots of Hindu devotees worshipping maa Kali.
